I almost feel bad for posting this. I figure the guy has taken a lot of grief over the years for his art in many of the Battletech books. I don't even know which artist did this, but what was he thinking? And who in FASA said, "COOL! Give us more like this!"

I feel less bad about this one. The cover of the Battletech Compendium is mostly striking. Very bold image of a MadCat/Timberwolf and an elemental. And when you look at the elemental (because the eye is drawn to this spot - mostly because it's obvious that it created by a different artist and was pasted in after the fact), you see that the clanners are, apparently, mustachiod, middle-aged accountants with tobacco habits and bad hair. Way to put the fear of Kerensky in us... When this thing came out, we all looked at it, said "Sweet!", and ignored ole Bill from accounting. It looks like the guy who added "Bill" is the same guy who created a lot of early Battletech character art. He appears to have taken photographs and traced over them with varying levels of success. I think it was Todd F. Marsh - my least favorite Battletech artist. I can only imagine the original artist's reaction when he saw this.

Every time I see this pic I hear a deep voice saying, "Oh hey, Man. You've met my wife, right? Cool."
