Welcome to Battletech 3025.
I almost called this forum "OBT" for Original Battletech, similar to the OD&D (Original D&D) guys, but figured Battletech 3025 hit it on the nose well enough.
I started playing Battletech when 2nd edition came out in 1985. I was an avid player, all the way through the Clan Invasion. I read the books, I bought the supplements, I made LOTS of battlemechs, vehicles, VTOL's, fighters, etc... I played it on my C-64, Amiga 500, Pods at the Chicago Battletech Center, my old DOS PC's, and (eventually) my Windows and Linux PC's (and now my RG350 Retro Handheld).
After TRO 3060, I quit for a while. It just seemed like the game had run its course. I skipped over the whole click-based era, as well as WizKids/FanPro era, and have found Catalyst a fair steward of the property.
Now, however, I mostly play using the old FASA material. The reason is not because I'm one of those old guys who hates all the new crap. I don't even hate the clanners, although they are not terribly interesting... The real reason is that I run a lot of demos at conventions, and the clean, basic rules found in the original setting are the easiest to teach. I have also found that the more whiz-bang equipment that is used, and the more optional rules that are piled on, the longer and less fun game-play gets.
The rules from the 2nd Ed boxed set can be found here [LINK], at the Internet Archive.
I normally use the rules from Battletech: the Rules of Warfare, with a bunch of Sticky Notes inserted to cover updates (like the much-improved partial cover rule). When I am really feeling crazy though, I add a bunch of rules from Maximum Tech, that I refer to as "SMAC-G" (Super Mecha Action Combat Game; Battletech) - which I plan to post on the forum fairly soon.
This forum is intended as a place to hang out and discuss the rules for 3025 era Battletech, the things we can do with them, the scenarios we can create with them, the games we have played using them, and general fun, nerdy, gamer stuff. It is also intended to serve as a repository of files for all the house rules, tips, tricks, 'mech (and fighter, and vehicle, and etc...) designs we have come up with over the years.
Forum Conduct is simple:
1. Be cool - we are all Battletech nerds here, so be nice. There is no need to see who can be the biggest jerk in the forum - It's me.
2. Keep it SFW (please).
3. Keep Religion and Politics out of here (please).
4. Keep the language clean (well, pretty clean anyway).
Failure to follow the rules will result in disciplinary action, up to and including being banned from the forum (I kind of have to say that, but I really don't foresee any ban-worthy insanity from honorable Mechwarriors... well, maybe the Kurita guys...)
Now that we have the dull formalities out of the way, please take a moment to introduce yourself.
Thanks and welcome again!
