MAXIMUM TECH Maybe not "ORIGINAL" rules, but certainly an excellent compendium of high-level optional rules. Maximum Tech allowed players to turn Battletech into Gundam, ad a lot of depth to game play, and even do cool anime stuff. GM's and players be warned, however, using too many GEE WHIZ rules from Maximum Tech will slow your game down to an absolute crawl. The best way to implement these rules is to add one or two per session. My favorites are Floating Crits, Direct Hits and Glancing Blows, Bogging down, and Dialing down energy weapons.
I actually made quick-reference cards for the rules and stored them in an old Rolodex I found at Goodwill (if it looks stupid but it works, it ain't stupid).

Something I was doing wrong...
For decades, when I rolled a random mechwarrior, I rolled once, and then assigned Gunnery and Piloting based on that roll. NO! You are supposed to roll once for Gunnery, and once again for Piloting.
DOH!
